Wondering Who Your Instructor Is?

Welcome to my course on Risk Factors for Youth Substance Misuse. I am honored that you have chosen to take this course, trusting me to share research-based, accurate information in a no fuss format.

If you are wondering who I am, here is a little bit about me...

Prevention is my passion! I have worked in the substance misuse prevention field since 1991. I was the Associate Director of the Western Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies (CAPT), co-created the first Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist Training (SAPST) curriculum, and co-authored the textbook, Substance Abuse Prevention: The Intersection of Science and Practice. In 2008, I started Gabrielsen Consulting and have continued to work as a consultant since that time.

Through Gabrielsen Consulting, I facilitate learning opportunities with states and communities across the nation to bridge the gap between research and practice, assisting prevention professionals in maximizing their effectiveness. I train prevention practitioners with a range of experience levels, from “newbies” to the more “seasoned” practitioners. I strive to create highly interactive learning experiences in my online courses, webinars, trainings, communities of practice, and enhanced prevention learning series. As the field evolves, I enjoy the challenge of finding new and creative opportunities to assist prevention practitioners to increase their effectiveness.

On a personal note, I live in McMinnville, Oregon with my husband, two sons, two dogs, and one cat. All of these creatures (both two-legged and four-legged) along with my consulting business keep me hopping!
